Forager Films and Autopod

I’ve been covering a good deal of music with the Polecam recently but the Brass Band completion at the Sage Gateshead presented a particular problem with no non-crew members allowed on stage.

A natural alternative was the Autopod which I could match with my existing Long Head and FS7 camera. Even though the movement is less than a metre the Autopod gave us the potential to reveal from behind band members, music stands and racks of tubular bells as well as the natural panning and tilting of the head with the zoom facility of the lens.

When setting the system up I realised the combination of joystick / camera remote/ foot pedals and monitor would need to be accessible and comfortable to operate for the day-long event.
So I built a camping chair with solid arms into a “Star Trek” Captain’s chair with control units velcroed onto the side table and foot pedals strategically placed in front whist monitor and controls were clamped to the arms. I’m very pleased to say that it all worked extremely well though I must confess sitting down for 12 hours with coffee and snacks delivered on demand does make one a little chunky! Time for a long dog walk I think!
