Twenty years ago I experienced for the first time the remarkable qualities of the Polecam when it came to filming cars, witnessing the versatility and dynamic moves possible, even with those early rigs. Now a version has come along which has shifted the ball-park yet again.

The latest combination of the Ronin RS3 Pro with Sony FX6 and a 16-35 lens make a huge improvement over the original system - having stabilisation, self levelling, a zoom lens and with a camera that is second to none when it comes to low light performance. 

Using this updated rig on the highest rating TV series - Bangers and Cash for The Yesterday Channel really proved its worth.  Cars were rammed into the auction hall leaving very little room to move - so the reduced profile of the head with the FX6 allowed for maximum exploitation of the potential shots in a 360 degree arc around the base. Spinning over open-top cars and developing shots from close-ups of dusty bonnets had the director grinning as he’d never seen its like on the show. 

Sadly my bid on the Lamborghini wasn’t enough!
