John Gillan of JG Broadcast and 3D Broadcast Jibs has completed another year working on the Chelsea Flower Show for the BBC with his Polecam.
Since 2006 John has shot Show Garden footage for the BBC and his edited footage can be seen by pressing the ‘Red Button’ on the BBC channel or online. “Its been another successful year at Chelsea” says John. “I just purchased Polecam’s new pan/tilt head and this was my first outing with it. I have to say it exceeded my expectations. The slow speed performance due to the closed loop electronics was brilliant and the head was rock steady even in a stiff breeze allowing me to do shots that I couldn’t do in previous years because of the slow speed performance of the head. I was so delighted. The people at Polecam have done an excellent job on this one”.
I was also using my own invention of a tripod attached Hi-hat which allows the Polecam to rise vertically much higher than when normally attached directly to a tripod allowing me to get very high wide shots and easily clear over tree branches with no interruption from the tripod legs. The camera used was the Toshiba IK-HD1 1080i recording onto a Nano Flash recorder with 4 metres of length on the jib and the new Wire Strut System.
